The Early Years
In 1974, John Teed joined sole practitioner Neil Brewer in his accounting practice in Fredericton, forming Brewer Teed & Co. The firm expanded when Brian Saunders joined in 1975, becoming a partner in 1977. In 1978, a merger with David Doyle, a sole practitioner in Saint John, resulted in the establishment of two offices, with John Teed returning to his hometown of Saint John.
In 1983, Neil Brewer left the firm to pursue other interests, leading to the renaming of the firm as Teed Saunders Doyle. Around this time, Ralph Gorman, a staff member, became a partner in the Fredericton office. David Bradley, who joined the Fredericton office as a student in 1979, became a partner in 1988.
The Middle Years
The firm continued to grow steadily, with the partnership mainly consisting of John Teed and David Doyle in the Saint John office, and Brian Saunders, Ralph Gorman, and David Bradley in the Fredericton office. As the clients became more plentiful, and more complex in nature, the partners realized that they needed to consider expanding the firm’s resources. In 1996, Teed Saunders joined the DFK group, an international association of independent accounting firms. DFK provided access to industry specialists and technical expertise all over the world and gave the firm the leg up it needed to continue to grow. The association with DFK has been instrumental in getting the firm to where it is today. It’s not all been take; the firm has been very active in DFK, with our partners serving on the executive of the DFK Canada Group over the years.
The founding partners also recognizing the importance of succession planning, they focused on attracting and retaining individuals who shared their goals and values. In Fredericton, the team welcomed John Landry, T.J. Smith, Jeff Saunders, and Kenny Kyle. In Saint John, Andrew Logan and Peter Logan joined the firm. These individuals would go on to shape the future of Teed Saunders Doyle.
Succession Years
In Saint John, Andrew Logan became a partner in 2003, and David Doyle retired in 2007, sadly passing away in 2009. Peter Logan became a partner in 2008, allowing John Teed to retire in 2010.
In the Fredericton office, John Landry and T.J. Smith became partners in 2008, followed by Jeff Saunders in 2009 and Kenny Kyle in 2011. Unfortunately, Ralph Gorman passed away suddenly in 2010. David Bradley retired in 2013, followed by Brian Saunders in 2015, and T.J. Smith in 2023.
This transition marked the beginning of the next generation’s leadership, committed to providing quality professional services to a diverse range of clients, including businesses, professionals, First Nations, charities, and not-for-profit organizations.
Recent Years
The firm has continued to thrive in recent years. In 2015, Nick Lawrence joined as a partner, though he sadly passed away in 2020. Sheldon LeBlanc became the newest partner that same year.
A proud moment came in 2019 when Teed Saunders Doyle was recognized as one of Canada’s Top Small and Medium Employers. This award reflects our commitment to creating an exceptional workplace culture, where our employees are valued and encouraged to grow.
Since its inception in 1974, Teed Saunders Doyle has grown from two accountants with a bookkeeper and a secretary to one of the largest independent accounting firms in New Brunswick. This success would not have been possible without the dedication of our hardworking staff. We are proud to have a team of almost 55 staff and partners, including 16 who have been with us for 20 or more years, one of whom retired in 2023 after 45 years of service.
As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we do so with great pride in our history and excitement for the next 50 years.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Clients
As we reflect on our 50-year journey, we recognize that our success would not have been possible without the trust and support of our clients. Their loyalty and partnership have been the cornerstone of our growth and achievements. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve them.
